Cosmetic dentistry
Whitening and veneers, for a natural, brighter smile.
Cosmetic treatment improves how your teeth look. Whitening lightens their colour; thin veneers cover the front surface of the tooth and correct shape, position or a colour that whitening cannot change.
Before we start we talk about your expectations and about what can be achieved in your case. Colour and shape are a personal matter, and we would rather say in advance what we cannot promise than disappoint you afterwards.
Cosmetic work comes after the teeth and gums are healthy. Whitening acts on tooth tissue, not on fillings, crowns or veneers; those keep their colour, so after whitening they sometimes have to be replaced for the colours to match again.
Whitening can be done at the practice or at home, with custom trays and a gel supplied with instructions; a single tooth that has darkened after root canal treatment is whitened from the inside, over several sessions. Teeth can be sensitive during and after whitening, which usually passes.
Veneers are permanent: the tooth has to be reduced slightly first, and that cannot be undone. They are made from ceramic (Emax) or directly from composite using an injection technique. So we plan them slowly, and only once you are happy with the plan.
