General dentistry
Check-ups, fillings and tooth restoration in modern materials.
General dentistry is the everyday work of a dental practice: routine check-ups, removing decay and restoring the tooth with a filling. The aim is to keep as much healthy tooth tissue as possible; what is removed does not grow back.
There is no need to wait for pain before coming in. Early decay usually causes no symptoms and is something we see at a check-up before you do, and at that stage a smaller repair is enough. Do come in if a tooth becomes sensitive to cold or sweet things, if food catches between your teeth, or if you notice a change in colour.
A visit starts with an examination and a conversation about what we found and what your options are. We tell you what we propose to do and what it is likely to cost before we start; the price of each procedure is published in our price list.
Fillings are made from a composite material, colour-matched to your tooth. Where too little of the tooth is left for an ordinary filling it can often be built up with a reinforced material (everX), and where treatment has to wait we close the tooth temporarily. Smaller repairs are usually done in the same visit.
A tooth can be sensitive to cold or pressure for a few days after a filling. If that does not settle, or if your bite does not feel the way it did, tell us and we will adjust it.
