Implants

A lasting replacement for missing teeth, using implants.

A dental implant replaces a missing tooth and takes over the role of the tooth root. It is placed surgically in the jawbone, and an abutment and a crown are fitted onto it later to take over the role of the visible part of the tooth.

An implant may be an option for a single missing tooth, for several, or as support for a denture that otherwise moves. Whether it is an option for you is decided by an examination: what matters is the amount and quality of bone, and the health of your gums and the tissues around the teeth. Where there is not enough bone, it can often be augmented.

Treatment runs in several stages: placing the implant, time for healing and integration with the bone, then activating the implant and making the crown. During that period we can arrange a temporary solution so the gap is not visible.

We set out the plan and the cost after an examination, before anything begins. The parts (placement, activation, abutment and crown) are priced separately in the price list, because the total depends on how many teeth are being replaced and how.

An implant needs the same care as your own teeth: brushing, cleaning between the teeth, and regular check-ups. The tissue around an implant can become diseased much as it can around a tooth, which is why those check-ups are part of the treatment rather than an extra.
